Today’s Miracle Moment Is Alysa Liu’s Secret to Gold: Being Happy for No Reason…
When you watched the 2026 Winter Olympics, did you see the radiant energy of figure skater Alysa Liu?
People everywhere were captivated, not just by her remarkable athleticism, but by something even more powerful. Her joy. lightheartedness and that huge, carefree smile as she glided across the ice.
Think about it. The Olympics represent the highest stakes imaginable. Athletes train their entire lives for this moment. The pressure is immense. Millions of people are watching. The entire world seems to be holding its breath.
Under those circumstances, most people would feel overwhelmed with anxiety about making a mistake. But Alysa Liu appeared relaxed, joyful, and completely present.
So what was her secret?
In many ways, Alysa embodies a powerful principle I call “Happy for No Reason.”
And it may be one of the most powerful success mindsets you can cultivate in your own life.
What Does It Mean to Be Happy for No Reason?
The idea of being happy for no reason is simple but deeply transformative.
It means experiencing a state of joy and well-being regardless of circumstances.
Instead of saying: “I’ll be happy when…”
…I get the promotion.
…the relationship works out.
…everything finally goes my way.
You learn to generate happiness from the inside out.
This doesn’t mean you stop having dreams or goals. Not at all. You can still aim for extraordinary outcomes. But you hold those goals with what my dear friend Jack Canfield calls:
High Intention and Low Attachment.
-
High intention means you’re clear about what you want and committed to your vision.
-
Low attachment means you’re not gripping so tightly that anxiety takes over.
When we become overly attached to a specific outcome, we create stress and pressure that can actually block our best performance and natural flow.
But when you combine focused intention with relaxed trust, something extraordinary happens. You perform better, feel freer and life begins to flow in surprising and beautiful ways.
Alysa Liu’s journey beautifully illustrates how this works.
3 Powerful Lessons from Alysa Liu’s Olympic Mindset
1. She Trusted Her Intuition
Alysa Liu’s story is anything but conventional. At just 13 years old, she became the youngest U.S. Women’s National Figure Skating Champion in history. By 16, she had already competed in the Olympics and was considered one of the sport’s brightest rising stars.
Then she shocked the entire skating world. She retired.
To many people, it seemed unthinkable. Why would someone walk away at the peak of their potential? But Alysa listened to something deeper. She listened to her intuition.
After years of intense training schedules, strict oversight, and enormous pressure, she chose to step away and reconnect with herself. She went to college, spent time with friends, and rediscovered life outside competitive skating.
Two years later, while skiing with friends, she felt that familiar inner voice again. This time it said: “Maybe it’s time to get back on the ice.”
She returned to skating, not to prove anything to anyone, but simply because it brought her joy. And within one year of returning, she achieved something extraordinary: She won the World Figure Skating Championship, becoming the first American woman in 24 years to win the title.
Your intuition may not lead you down a typical path either. But when you trust that inner guidance, you often find yourself aligned with Divine timing and unexpected opportunities.
2. She Embraced Mistakes and Loved the Journey
One of the most inspiring things Alysa has said in interviews is this:
“I’m okay if I mess up and do a horrible program. Mistakes are beautiful too.”
Imagine bringing that mindset to the Olympics! Because she was already happy, the pressure disappeared. She wanted to win but she didn’t need to win in order to feel okay. And that freedom changed everything.
Most of us are taught that we can only be “happy for good reason.” We believe happiness comes after success. But the truth is often the opposite. When you become happy first, you naturally create the conditions for success.
Why?
Because happiness reduces fear, unlocks creativity, improves performance, and attracts opportunities. Instead of trying to extract happiness from your achievements, you bring happiness with you into everything you do.
This is what it means to be Happy for No Reason.
3. She Stayed in Joy While Doing the Work
Choosing happiness doesn’t mean avoiding effort. Alysa still trained rigorously, spending hours each day on the ice and in the gym.
But her motivation had shifted. She wasn’t skating out of pressure or expectation. She was skating from joy. And that joy made the discipline sustainable.
This is the essence of High Intention and Low Attachment.
You still take action.
You still show up consistently.
You still pursue your goals with dedication.
But you do it while staying connected to your deeper joy and inner fulfillment. And when you do that, your energy becomes magnetic.
A Simple Practice to Release Attachment
One powerful practice from my book Happy for No Reason is called “Inviting Grace.”
I used this exercise myself while writing the book. I had a big dream for it to become a bestseller—but I also knew I needed to release my attachment to that outcome.
Here’s the simple process:
Step 1: Write a Letter to the Universe
Sit quietly and write a heartfelt letter to whatever higher intelligence you believe in—Divine, Source, Nature, or the Universe—about a situation where you’d like support.
Step 2: Ask for the Highest Outcome
Ask that the perfect people, circumstances, and opportunities be brought to you for the highest fulfillment of the situation.
Then add this powerful phrase: “This or something better.”
Step 3: Place the Letter Somewhere Meaningful
Put the letter somewhere symbolic—perhaps under a stone in your garden, inside a sacred space in your home, or tucked into a special book.
Step 4: Let Go
Trust that the Universe is responding in ways you may not yet see. Then simply notice what unfolds over the coming days and weeks.
Winning Gold in Life
Alysa Liu is still incredibly young, yet she has already achieved so much including two Olympic gold medals.
But what’s even more inspiring than her victories is how she achieved them.
By:
-
Listening to her intuition
-
Embracing the journey
-
Staying joyful while doing the work
-
And living from a place of being happy for no reason
And that’s a mindset that can transform every area of your life.
Because the real gold medal isn’t just success. It’s learning how to pursue your dreams while already feeling whole, joyful, and at peace.
Reflection for You
What would it feel like if you could pursue your biggest dreams…while already feeling happy, fulfilled, and free inside?
That’s the true path to winning gold in life.
