Today’s Miracle Moment is about stretching outside of your comfort zone so you can live more fully in the Miracle Zone.
I (Marci) am coming to you from beautiful Island Lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. Now, let me tell you, getting here was certainly a stretch outside of my comfort zone.
It’s not that being in nature is a stretch for me because I’ve always loved nature. I grew up as a girl scout, and we’d camp every summer. However, in my 62 years of life, I’d never backpacked into a remote area. So, when my partner, Sergio, suggested we do a backpacking trip, all kinds of objections, resistance and fears came up.
My mind started having a little anxiety party… Was I going to be able to handle the weight of the heavy backpack? Was it going to be too hard for me to hike in? Were we going to be so remote that there wouldn’t be anybody around if we needed help? Would we encounter bears?
While I almost said no to the trip, I realized I didn’t want to spend any more time in resistance. Fears can block progress by keeping us stuck in our comfort zone, and I wanted to move beyond that.
One of the principles that Dr. Sue Morter and I teach in the Your Year of Miracles program, which is about how to live in the Miracle Zone, is to choose where you put your energy and attention.
Initially I had put my focus on all the possible problems. Fortunately, I was able to catch myself and shift my attention partway through my thought process. It’s not that my fear disappeared–I still felt the fears, but I decided to go anyway and just put my attention on what I wanted to experience.
I told myself, “Okay, I’m going to do this. I can do this even though it’s a stretch for me, and it’ll be a fabulous experience.” Making this choice landed me in the most magical, phenomenal place that was nourishing to my soul. That would not have happened had I not shifted my attention and stretched beyond my comfort zone!
An Invitation to You…
This week I invite you to find something that would stretch you outside of your comfort zone. It might not be physical. Maybe it’s about your finances or perhaps it’s some kind of social stretch like putting together a Zoom party with friends or family.
Moving beyond your comfort zone will build your inner strength and create more possibilities in your life. You’ll experience living more in the Miracle Zone.
So, select a stretch that’s right for you, and share that in the comments below. Let’s join together and cheer each other on in choosing where we put our energy and attention so we can stretch beyond our comfort zone. Then, celebrate yourself when you’ve actually done that stretch.
I send you my love and my great wishes in moving beyond your comfort zone to live in the Miracle Zone.
“Real change is difficult at the beginning, but gorgeous at the end. Change begins the moment you get the courage and step outside your comfort zone; change begins at the end of your comfort zone.”
― Roy T. Bennett
Several backpacks were quite a stretch for me…our 1st one in the Grand Tetons was quite a disaster…even though we thought we were in shape and well prepared and well equipped….still we went out on more backpacking trips, some of which went well and some of which didn’t.
Thank you for sharing your story. It’s a reminder for me tor me to take a leap of faith. I was thrown out of my comfort zone at the age of 13 moving from one country to the U.S. or moving from city life to suburban life of working in Corp. life and the good and bad that came with it because you look different. I have grown over the years because being out of my comfort zone.
And life never throws anything at us that we can’t handle as your life has proven. Kudos to you, Janice.
I love this video, both the message and the background. Please do more of these : )
Onto the question, I have been stretching outside of my comfort zone in many ways, and a few involved building my business. I started doing healing calls over Zoom when COVID started, launched a FB challenge which I had never done before, and I am offering my first online course without knowing whether anyone will sign up. It’s my version of the surrender experiment.
For me. It’s easy. Just get out of my home. My bedroom has become my isolation booth. First out of my room then out of the house. Covid has made it easy for me to not see anyone. Out.
Times have certainly changed for everyone this year!
Carmen, we so love having you in our Miracles Family! Namaste
Miracle Zone did happened by leaving out my comfort zone.
Miracles can happened anytime on the right time, and place but with the positive thoughts and determinations.
From my younger age, I was so passionate to travel, so I had gone through lots of travels. But, to leave the Comfort zone took me a lot of courage, determination , ambitions and right attitude. I am always positive thinker that something is better than contented staying in my comfort Zone. I had to magnify my life, so from that point, one door was closed and the new amazing door had opened, it’s the place of more miracles.
The thoughts of making miracles starts in our mind and our life for better will be motivated and determined by your will power. Comfort Zone can motivate your feelings of searching for more satisfying Zone of complete contentment and real success.
Thank you so much for sharing part of your story with us. And what a beautiful name…Corazon! xo
Stretching beyond my comfort zone has been very hard for me, as my home, my castle was burglarized in mid August, not to mentioned the passing of my mom in early April and just when I thought I was strong to conquer the world this happens. Well I’m still taking baby steps towards my emotional recovery. This platform has been helping me in my recovery by reading all the positive stories and shifting my mind from a victim to a Victorian. I’m choosing where I put my energy. Thank you Marci for sharing your story
So sorry to hear about the challenges you’ve been facing, Gayleen. This is a time of taking great care of yourself. Blessings to you.
Stretching outside of my comfort zone seems to have been my m.o. for much of my adult life, starting in my 20s when I took the plunge in Thailand and left my group to get on a train to Malaysia alone and then continued to travel throughout Asia over the next year and a half, all the way up to making the choice to come take care of my dad when he asked six years ago, leaving my life and friends, and living with a parent again at age 61 for the first time since I was 17 years old (and a parent, I might had, who was not a sweet, kind, or cuddly father figure most of my growing up years). But the comfort zone I realize I have never fully stepped out of is the one of protecting my heart, never fully opening it, all the way, and allowing love to enter into its deepest core. That is the comfort zone I have finally begun stepping out of, and will continue to step out of, no matter how scary or frightening it is. As much as I’ve given others most of my life, I will never have given fully to them until I can fully receive their love in return. So I will continue stretching outside my comfort zone and receive love, and receive love, and receive love.
Debra,
I loved your story. I streched out of my comfort zone in my 60’s and moved in with my mom to care for her the last 4 months of her life ( along with Hospic) so she could transition to the otherside in the comfort of her own home. My sweet husband agreed to it and he went on the road for a trucking company for those four months. I will never forget what some people may have looked at as a sacarifice as one of the greatest blessings of my life. To be able to give this gift to my mother was out of my comfort zone as far as being out of my own space and schedule, but I moved into a comort zone of love and service. Sending love your way!
What a courageous story, Deborah. Protecting your heart is understandable. One of our 5 Foundations of Living in the Miracle Zone is “Live with an Open Heart” and we’ve had to come back to that one time and time again. It does take courage and we have total faith in you and your beautiful spirit.
Love your short Miracle Moment videos. Thank you! They are always so on point and authentic. So true about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. I have always gained something and felt better for doing it. And yes, I would have had to push myself to go on a backpacking trip, too 🐻
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback, Amber. Sometimes it pushes us out of our comfort zone to put these videos out there. So we’re so happy to hear that you’re enjoying them!
Thank you for your video. I backpacked on horseback to a Corral Creek Lake a 25 mile ride into the mountains. When we got there we pitched a tent, it rained, we fished, and stayed 2 days. The Lake was beautiful and clear, worth the all day ride. We rode the horses back out of the mountains home. I rode on a 2 year old green broke Percheron work horse on my fist back packing trip. Work horses don’t buck as hard as a saddle horse.⛰ 🐴 🏕
Whoa! A trip like that would definitely be out of my comfort zone. Sounds like an unforgettable time.
I agree stretching is a great thing to do but this had to be made awhile ago, the sky is blue
Yes, Susan. Fortunately we did our trip right before the fires erupted in California.
So grateful for this reminder Marci and to know that it’s okay to stretch beyond
my comfort zone. I have been one of those super active persons who has stretched beyond my comfort zone from an early age by something pushing me
on from within. Last but not the least thanks for sharing that magnificent view
behind you. in California. With love and blessings,
You’re welcome, Christine. So happy to share that magnificent view with you. It was definitely worth stretching out of my comfort zone to see it.
Thanks Marci,I loved the setting and the message. I’ve probably stepped out of my comfort zone most of my life because I am alife long learner but one of the recent and hardest was when, at the age of 74, I went into a one year training program to become a life/progressive EFT tapping coach. It was a rough challenging year but the growth was tremendous. My husband and I served a mission for our church and the president of our area where we served named Kent Collins often said to us. “There is no growth in the comfort zone, and no comfort in the growth zone.” I’ve always thought of this everytime I meet a challenge to step out of my comfort zone.
You are a true inspiration, Carolyn! So love being in the Miracle Zone with you.
I just discovered this site and look forward to reading all the blogs and learning more.
I have always been the maverick in my family, traveling to wonderful places and living in towns where they would never go.
I have an open heart and ten miracle grandchildren.
I also have 2 daughter-in-laws who are jealous. One is especially mean, controlling and highly manipulative.
I was a high school teacher and loved by my students.
This daughter-in-law is still trying to eliminate me from the family. The miracle I would love is to have a partner again,
a loving man to be my loving companion.
Thank you all for sharing.
