The Miracle of Laughter

Today’s Miracle Moment Is About the Miracle of Laughter…

As we’ve been making these Miracle Moments for you, we’ve had so many laughs in the process. So, we decided to create a Miracle Moment especially for you on the miracle of laughter because we want you to join us in laughing!

There’s a lot of research and evidence about the power of laughter to heal.

Laughter creates endorphins, the feel-good chemicals that help us feel great after a good laugh.

Laughter is a big pattern interrupter that takes you out of your old stories that clamp you down and keep you in a rut.

Laughter absolutely confuses the mind as it’s hard to think when you’re laughing; this opens up your energy field for joy to come through. So, when you can, just laugh at yourself, laugh at your thoughts, laugh at how seriously you’re taking things.

Why get caught up in the moment with such intensity when you can often laugh it off and recognize that most things work out in the end anyway?

There’s a form of yoga called laughter yoga that originated in India. The last time I (Marci) travelled to India, we were riding in a boat along the sacred Ganges river at 6:30 a.m. All of a sudden, we heard roaring laughter from a big group of people bathing in this holy river. We boated over to them to see what they were doing and they invited us to join them in laughter yoga.

We’ve since taken a few laughter yoga classes, and once the laughter gets started, you can’t help but join in.

It’s great to talk about laughter, but it’s much better to do it! So please join us in about 20 seconds of laughter for no reason.

If you feel silly doing it, even more reason to do it. Why pass up an opportunity for a good laugh? After laughing for about 20 seconds, notice how you feel in your body. That’s the endorphin high.

We’ll close today with a Jewish proverb …
“As soap is to the body, so laughter is to the soul.”

So, let’s clean our souls. Let’s scrub them down with some good yummy laughter.

We’d love to hear your thoughts, feelings, and experiences of practicing this. Please share with us in the comments section below.

I’m in recovery from a bout of Covid, so the laughter is good medicine for this soul & body! I will keep practicing even as I lay down to rest & sleep.

My laughter turned into belly sobbing. Is that curative, too?

What a beautiful Proverb – I shall carry that along with many from Noah Benshea – but most of all will practice it with it stored in my blessings memory that I visit daily. Laughter truly keeps the wrinkles from turning our mouths downward and lifting our hearts upwards. Bless you both for sharing your time and your energies – thank you.

I was in a tender mood this morning and started laughing with you as I chopped my vegetables for lunch on a cold and rainy Maine day…everything suddenly feels lighter and brighter – even the veggies seem happier for the positive waves! – thanks for the uplift!

I got through a very challenging pregnancy by watching Mash 3 times a day. My baby was transverse lie, I had toxemia, I was on bed rest raising two children under 3 and I was alone. I laughed thru 1 and 1/2 hours of Mash daily and delivered a healthy baby girl.

The old variety shows from decafes ago were gems, inviting belly laughs galore…Carol Burnett and Tim Conway classic routines… his “dentist” and her “Scarlett” dressed in the curtain! Even Robin Williams’s explanation of golf using a Scottish accent. Can still find them on Youtube… that’s a great idea for inclusion in a daily routine! 🤣

I really enjoyed the movie Patch Adams played by the actor Robin Williams who hasnow passed away. In the movie of a real story we are taught that Laughter is the best medicine and that’s what patch Adams did and although in the movie someone passed away who was closed to Patch we must also get through our obstacles and Challenges and move on and when we laugh while we are moving on I believe we can change profoundly our lives depending as to what we are laughing. Thank You Marci and Dr Sue, from the bottom of my heart. Nicolas.

The best part of laughing is that your brain cannot determine false laughter from genuine laughter. So just start laughing, no matter what is going on around you, and feel lighter; plus it’s good for the soul!

How great to laugh, having just lost an old friend, dealing with various family dramas, and also on the 8th year anniversary day of my father’s passing. He had the last laugh–joking about morbid topics, including who we should un-invite to his funeral and condolence (shiva) calls (sorry, couldn’t oblige). Thanks for reminding me of him, and the laughter we shared even during a most painful time.

I laughed my way through all the hot flash symptoms of menopause. It was more than 30 years ago. I would just start chuckling and laughing as my body started heating up and I would share with those around me what was going on and how funny I thought it was that this is what my body would be doing. I would often say “this is the funniest joke that my body has ever done” and just start laughing – and the symptoms would surrender to the laughter and go away quickly. I laughed many, many times a day and was happy and drenched!!
I always attributed the ease of menopause to the laughter and shared my secret!

Oh hi Marci n Sue, well you two started it n you did not say that I shouldn’t lol if I am sitting cross legged on a hospital bed n just as I turned the volume up of your video n joined your laughter, oops my specialist walked in n she asked what is the joke. Now I needed to think on the spot though not easy after taking the lovely drinks ready for the colonoscopy n gastroscopy procedures in the morning. But thanks to my tuition as a participant in 2017 YYOM, I am always in the zone so without missing a beat, I made up something hilariously funny that she should decide which procedure to do first in the morning if she only has one single tubing. She lol n said…were you sharing that with your friends just now n that they were laughing, you know you are very funny. This is priceless, Marci, please share this real life happening with Debra when you catch up with her, I can just see her expression. Please allow my monthly funny blogs to tickle you if you have a few minutes, yup, who can live without laughter? Sending you all love n light…yes, from a hospital bed, routine procedures, nothing serious.

Very infectious! Laughing is well…..funny 😁. Lots of great stories about how the Masters, when the break through to enlightenment, just start laughing and laughing……. rolling around with laughter. For no obvious reason!

Absolutely wonderful topic! Thank you 😊. I’ve been aware of the power of laughter for most of my adult life. My parents both had great sense of humor. They are gone now: however, my 3 brothers, sister and I all share our parents gift of humor. There is never a gathering, call or text that doesn’t bring a smile and laughter. How lucky am I. I recently watched a documentary about the life of Tig Nataro. She was the first comedian to do a stand up comedy routine about her breast cancer, after experiencing several prior tragic events. She made it so funny, but deeply connecting that audience laughed with her at this tragedy, that she turned it into such a blessing for millions. Her standup routine went viral and forever changed that industry and her life. She healed her life with laughter and now experiences joy and health everyday. Thank you for the reminder!

This is so synchronistic. I’ve been thinking about laughter a lot lately. For most of us our favourite sound is to hear a baby or toddler laughing….a real “belly laugh”.
I’ve actually been thinking “Why not laugh as I’m leaving the planet?” That could raise the vibe a lot. 🤭👏❤️🙏
