The Power of Prana

Today’s Miracle Moment is about the miraculous power of prana…

We’re going to share with you a very easy and effective way to increase your prana.

You might be wondering—what’s prana? And why do I want to increase it?

Prana is the Sanskrit word for life force. It’s your energy, your vitality—it’s also called Chi or Ki. The more vital energy or flow of life force we have, the better everything works in our lives.

Increasing your prana is a powerful way to get in the Miracle Zone!

Increasing our life force, especially through these times, is so important.

So, how do you increase your prana? One way is through your breath. You can actually breathe in more life force. With correct breathing, you can improve all of your body’s systems from digestion to elimination, from clarity of mind to emotional balance, and everything in between.

Here’s a simple breathing practice for increasing prana that we both love.

The first step is to breathe from the belly. Most people breathe from the upper chest, which creates anxiety and puts them in the “fight or flight” mode. But if you breathe from the belly, you’ll experience greater ease and calm, while feeling more vitalized.

Here’s how to breathe from the belly. Put one hand on your belly and take a nice deep breath in through your nose. As you do that, feel your belly expanding and your hand moving out with your inhale. Then, as you exhale through your nose, feel your belly emptying and your hand moving in. That’s proper breathing.

The second part of this process to increase your prana is called mula bandha. Mula refers to your root chakra, or energy center at the base of your body, and bandha means lock. In doing mula bandha, you lock your consciousness down low in your body, so you don’t live up in your head. To do mula bandha, contract the muscles in the base of your pelvic bowl, your perineum, like you’re doing a Kegel exercise. It’s as though you’re going to the bathroom and you have to stop the stream all at once.

If you contract those muscles while you’re also breathing in the belly, you begin to build more prana or life energy.

Now the third step: Rapidly exhale your breath — from your belly — without even worrying about the inhale. That rapid exhaling, called breath of fire, is going to build your prana even faster. Try it out for a minute or two and see what happens.

When you breathe in these ways, you take in more negative ions, which are the “good guys.” Negative ions are the invisible molecules you find in places where there’s water crashing down—at the beach or near waterfalls or even in the shower—that make you feel good. Breathing in negative ions increases your serotonin (one of the happiness chemicals) and makes you feel very alive.

We’d love to hear your comments about how you feel from this practice of breathing, so please share them below…

We end today’s message with an old Chinese proverb that says…

“If you know the art of breathing, then you’ll have the strength, wisdom, and courage of ten tigers.”

We wish you many miraculous moments of vital prana and the strength, wisdom, and courage of ten tigers.
Happy Breathing!

Do I continue to contract muscles on the exhale/outbreath? Keep muscles contracted throughout the process?
Also, with the rapid exhales… keep muscles contracted…right?

yes, do keep them contracted thru all the breathing

I find it difficult to contract my pelvic muscles and expand my abdomen at the same time. So I contract the pelvic muscles first and then breathe from the belly. Can I do this?

When exhale, I can relax the pelvic muscles, right?

    1. Geetha Krishnamurthi Avatar

keep up the contraction as much as you are able to with the tension that Dr. Sue talked about. With practice it will get easier. Keep the contraction thru the exhale as well.

I think that one should breathe in without any contraction but contract his muscles immediately after breathing in. Breating out will support keeping one´s perineum in tension. Then releae everything.

Wow! Thank you so much. Very enlightening and very effective. I have only read explanations of the muladhara mudra by male gurus. I tried to practice it for several years, but could never get it quite right. Funny thing — men are built different than women. Huh. I’ll have to remember that. You know, I really can’t imagine you demonstrating this on video. Actually, I think I would prefer that you didn’t. (No offense intended, Bonnie. 😏)

    Hi Ladies,
I really enjoyed doing this prana exercise Honestly, I was feeling very nasuseaus because I have digestive issues and I suffer with shallow breathing due to daily anxiety and when I did this exercise I could feel my spasm in my stomach slowly releasing and my breathing became much deeper and I feel so relaxed. My problem is I can’t synchronize the breathing. When I breathe in and lift my perineum muscles, as I’m lifting I also feel to tighten my stomach when I shouldn’t. I have to practise more.

I surely wish the instructions concerning the exhale and contracting would have been more clearly explained or, better yet, demonstrated. Hard to be motivated when you can’t be sure you’re doing it correctly. Somewhat disappointing.

In meditation, the first few deep breaths are into the belly but out through the mouth. I had not heard of the breath of fire before but will incorporate it.

Thank you for the reminder. Any singers could be very comfortable with belly breathing. To practice this breathing, one can lay down on the floor flat, relax (the key) and watch the belly rise and fall. (Babies breathe correctly without any instruction!!!!)
Contracting the root core muscle is very healthy and challenging addition.
Also I believe the “breath of fire” is also referred to as “warriors breath” Ancient technique, practiced on the floor, I can’t remember how many counts, and the energy stays with one for a day or more!!!!

This is wonderful. I have been doing it for years and it truly helps. It also helps to combine it with “Earthing” (touching the earth with your bare skin) – which floods the body with electrons, neutralizing inflammation.

I recommend this exercise, I have been using it myself for some time thanks to Dr. Sue. Once I was walking alone and it got dark in the “dangerous” neighborhood and I had various scary thoughts. Since I know deep inside that we draw what is inside of us outside, I thought that I could calm my mind. And that breath helped me in this and filled my body with vitality. Very valuable: to calm you down without any energy-draining effect. Love thiś <3 Thank!

Breathing is air between death and life. It controls your thoughts. But the conditions keep words deeds and thoughts under Divine wisdom. Otherwise, there is no meditation nor divine breathing.
