Remembering Who You Really Are

Today’s Miracle Moment Is About Remembering Who You Are…

A number of years ago when I (Marci) was writing Happy For No Reason, I read the story about a tribe in Africa in which every tribe member has a signature song. When a baby is in the womb, the family feels into that baby’s soul and comes up with a “signature song” for the baby. The child is sung their song during the pregnancy, when they are born, and many times throughout their childhood. The entire tribe knows each person’s song and they sing the songs to each other.

When a member of their tribe commits a crime, rather than punishing them, the entire tribe gathers and circles around that person. Then they sing the offender “their song” to remind them of who they are.

Then each person in the circle shares their appreciation of that person to further help them remember who they are.

Isn’t that amazing!

The whole tribe stays strong when everyone loves and uplifts each other rather than judges each other.

How different from how our modern culture operates! But, we can adopt this perspective for ourselves and our own family and friends – to remind ourselves and each other who we really are.

We can breathe our own breath in such a way that it feels as familiar as our own song being sung to us.

If you take slow, deep belly breaths regularly throughout the day, you continually soothe yourself and connect with your true Self. This is a reminder of your vibrational signature that feels like home, and you can create this for yourself at any moment.

Here’s what to do:

Every time you take a deep belly breath, relax your shoulders, rest the activity in your mind, and drop into the deep core central channel of your being. Your subconscious is going to respond with, “Oh, there I am. I don’t have to work so hard to figure out who I am. I don’t have to prove it. I don’t have to be afraid. I remember who I am.”

When you give that signal to the subconscious, you connect to the feeling of belonging—as though you are part of a tribe that is not going to let you flail about, but will hold you high and remind you of who you are.

The truth is that we are each magnificent beings. There is not anything wrong with any of us, and all we have to do is remember who we truly are.

Over these next weeks, we invite you to practice checking in and remembering who you are…the truth of your essence. And, don’t just rely on your mind alone—let your body and your breath help facilitate the process.

When your mind, body, and breath are all working together, you don’t feel alone!

We’d love to hear your thoughts, feelings, and experiences of practicing this. Please share with us in the comments section below.

Thank you for sharing the story of the African tribe and their custom of singing the tribe member’s song. Is it possible to name the tribe and the African country/region? It is such a beautiful ritual and I believe we should give credit to the tribe by recognising it by name when sharing its customary practice.

I agree and thank you for wanting to know and acknowledge this African tribe, Gail, as their beautiful wisdom and cultural practice is benefitting us too. I wondered the same thing, as I read it. This way, they won’t be obscure in history. We give thanks. And thank you all too for bringing this to us.

It’s a beautiful tale and an Inspiring idea (but may not be based in fact). We can still be uplifted by it as a story.

Some origin research was done in this article:

Thank for reminding us, how important it is, to stop, take a deep breath, before taking actions, when the mind is in over load.

I have experienced this many times. Jumping to conclusions, without stopping to take that deep breath. I am contractioned, taking short breaths.

My energy is slow moving, while the mind is running havoc. Reminder, remember always, to breathe in long, and exhale, softly.

Thanks for the remainider! Lovingly, Sarika G

Wow I did comment Marci and Dr sue u nailed it I think if we uplifted people and find the cause of the problem instead of condemning them we may have a better outcome of repeat offenders. I also am liking the breathing with the body and mind all coinciding. Mitzispencer thanks

I am doing an exercise called “the miracle of today” which is an exercise from a book called “Real Life” from Dr Phil McGraw in where Dr Phil says that I should write the miracle of each day for 30 days and then reviewed them. I started doing the exercise in 5 November 2010 and I still write that miracle each day. I have 10 Diaries and so far I have written over 460000 words because I typed it in Microsoft word. Thank you for letting me share the miracle of today with you Dr Sue and Dr Marcy. Nicolás.

I love this Miracle Moment series. It brings tears to my eyes .truly we are, each one of us, God’s Children .We are miracles and we tend to forget this in the hurry-burry of morn life.I wish we could do what the African tribe did.It is a binding together of the entire tribe. We just have to be like that- big ‘One”.

I love this ideal that every being has a song. I’d like to see this used for children, and even in the elementary school classroom—terrific idea of love and inspiration.

Thank you for this reminder, followed by the August message about Overwhelm. I sat down and noted where I feel it, how sometimes it’s resistance, and often it’s when I think I must do things that are hard. The 5 top priorities (in Marci’s talk) became less overwhelming if I thought of…who can help me, or who can I delegate this to?
This began to free me of this huge weight around social media, how without doing a lot I wouldn’t build my business, properly market my writing, etc.
And then I looked at how my miracles journal was mostly blank. So I thought back and started to write a bit–in a new journal my grandson, 5, just gave me (we share a love of paper and writing). I saw that I have delegated, and bartered, and do have help.
A friend got me on Instagram, and a partner is doing all the social media for an event (I write, she posts).
Listening to these talks, loving our small YOM group, digesting Dr. Sue’s book and sharing its wisdom, with time when I can’t sleep to read more…these are small miracles that keep me in the zone and off the overwhelm track. And I just found out how to correctly access this blog after all these months. Thank you all for listening, and sharing. Less Overwhelm, More Love, Sheila
